Owasso Girls Softball Assoc. hosts Unique Festival!!
Owasso- The Owasso Girls Softball Association (OGSA) hosted another spectacular Fast-pitch Softball event this past weekend in the 14U and 16U ASA Shootouts. The event was held at the Owasso Sports Park, on the Northwest side of the City off at 10320 East 116th Street North, and included some of the Top Amateur Female athletes from throughout Northeastern Oklahoma.
The Shootout was a most unique event set up as a 5 game festival format for 14 & under and 16 & under teams. The game times were all scheduled ahead of time so that each team knew their playing times in advance. The format was designed especially to let the coaches select the things their team needed to work on most to be better prepared for nationals.
Some games featured the International Tie Breaker used to begin each at bat. Some games began each inning with a runner at third or first base, or even the bases loaded. There were dozens of different options for coaches to create and choose from. The format was flexible enough for coaches to be able to really work on the things that needed that additional "tweaking" before they attend nationals. Coaches determined the specifics at the plate during the coin flip and if they couldn't come up with an idea they both liked, then they could play a normal game.
The Teams participating included the Blazer Comets, Classics, Eagles, Mirage, Rock-N-Fire, Stillwater Crush, Titanium Elite, Titans and Tulsa Lightning in the 16 and under Division along with the Blazer Blitz, Lady Outlaws, OK All-Stars, Stealers and Stealth in the 14 and under Division. There were several local Owasso girls playing on the competitive teams in preparation for the upcoming Softball seasons for the Lady Rams. Although, several coaches went overboard trying to change up their offensive and defensive schemes confusing their players at times, it was an overall successful weekend for the majority of the Players and Teams who participated.
Congratulations to the Owasso Girls Softball Association and to Steve Miller the President of the Association, Dan Gibson, Steve Bevans and the entire OGSA staff, along with all the Teams, Coaches, Players, Umpires, Parents, Fans and everyone else involved in putting on one of the most unique festivals experienced in North Eastern Oklahoma this year. I would personally recommend that every team planning on attending Nationals, who would like to maximize their abilities, should attend this event next year.
